Jan. 24, 1887 Condolence Letter from P. J. Moran of the Atlanta Constitution, Atlanta, GA

P. J. Moran wrote this letter of condolence to John F. Armstrong on 24 January 1887, four days after the death of Sarah McAndrew Armstrong. Moran opened the letter with “My Dear Friend” and closed it with “Your Friend Sincerely, P. J. Moran”.
Moran was born in Canada in 1849 and moved to Atlanta in 1868. At the Atlanta Constitution, he worked as a writer and an editor. In 1886, the Georgia delegation to the Irish National League of America convention in Chicago was led by John F. Armstrong of Augusta. Armstrong was president of the delegation and P. J. Moran of Atlanta was secretary. Other members of the Georgia delegation were E. J. O’Connor, Thomas Murray, and William Mulherin, all of Augusta, and James A. Benson of Wilkes County.
