Jan. 25, 1887 Condolence Letter from M. J. Doyle of Savannah, GA

Michael J. Doyle wrote this letter of condolence to John F. Armstrong on 25 January 1887, five days after the death of Sarah McAndrew Armstrong. Doyle opened the letter with “Dear Mr. Armstrong” and closed it with “Fraternally and Sincerely Yr. Obt. Svt. M. J. Doyle”.
Doyle and John F. Armstrong and William Mulherin of Augusta were part of a delegation of Irish Americans that met with President Arthur at the White House in 1883 to discuss immigration issues. Doyle was a successful grocer and prominent Republican in Savannah.
