The Shoemaker Ade and the Georgia Salzburgers
Solomon and Margaretha Ade were Lutheran immigrants fleeing religious persecution in Baden-Wurtemburg, Germany. They arrived in Savannah, Georgia on October 7, 1738 as part of the Third Palatine Transport. Governor James Oglethorpe sent them twenty-five miles up the Savannah River to work at the Salzburger Community at Ebenezer.
