Ireland’s Four Ancient Provinces
November 15, 2016
Ireland is divided into four ancient provinces. On this map: 1) Ulster is light brown and dark brown, 2) Leinster is gray, 3) Munster is blue, and 4) Connacht (Connaught) is purple.
In 1921, the island was partitioned into the twenty-six counties of the Republic of Ireland and the six counties of Northern Ireland (light brown), which are part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
County Sligo is located on the northwest coast of Ireland in the Province of Connacht.
