Jan. 29, 1887 Condolence Letter from Hugh J. Carroll of Pawtucket, RI

Hugh J. Carroll of Pawtucket, Rhode Island wrote this letter of condolence to John F. Armstrong on 29 January 1887. According to the Parnell Commission Report, published in 1890, Carroll was a member of the Clan na Gael and the Irish National League of America (INLA). He represented Rhode Island in the INLA and served on the INLA’s Council of Seven in 1884, when Patrick Egan was elected president of the organization.
During the Parnell Commission hearings in London in 1889, both Carroll and JF were mentioned as having held offices in the United Brotherhood/Clan na Gael.
